Hourglass Quilt Top Giveaway (300th Post!!)

This is an hourglass quilt I started awhile back.
It's made from scraps, odds and ends, and a few shirts I cut up.

It measures 39" by 49"
(And, yes, I know there are 3 squares that are turned wrong. I'll fix them...)

I had full intentions of making it a regular sized quilt top

...until I spotted this quilt in one of my magazines. I guess you could say I've moved on. I am now trying to figure out a way to sneak some plaid shirts out of my husbands closet without him knowing.

So, in honor of our 300th post I'm giving away my hourglass top to some lucky person who is willing to finish it and give it a nice home.

To enter, leave a comment telling us what you'd do with the quilt if you won. Oh, the possibilities: a table runner, the lining of a bag, pillows, a play mat for kids, or even a wall hanging. Do tell! Make sure you leave your email if we can't contact you through blogger. And if you feel the need to send a plaid shirt my way, I'd be happy to accept it! (Though it won't help you win :)

Winner will be posted on Monday!

As always, flickr provides hours of inspiration. I really like this one with white as the border.

  1. This would be perfect for me to quilt for my sister. She is to be a first-time grandma in Jan and could use a nice quilt to keep at her house...

  2. I love it and if I won it I would use it to creat a large bean bag for the den area under minimads brand new bed (his first big boy bed). The colours match perfectly and I can not quilt, so it would be just fab. That is if you would ship to the UK!!!! His room is onmy blog

  3. I have so many ideas for this quilt top. It could be a finished blanket for the couch, a blanket for the nephew (his bday is coming up). The possibilities are endless. I would just love to see your work in person!

  4. It would either be a wall hanging or a lap quilt. It's beautiful!! Nice giveaway!

  5. Congrats on 300 posts! The quilt should be a wall hanging or lap quilt, I agree... it would definitely go in my guest bedroom which is Americana themed - those colors would be perfect!

  7. I'd keep this quilt on the couch in my living room for my cuddle-bug daughter to cuddle up with while watching t.v. She loves her quilt I'm making for her bed and asked me to make one for the couch. It would save me a lot of time if I could win this one instead :)

  8. 300 quality posts! ;) I would make it a wall hanging in my son's room. I just painted it a wonderful robin's egg blue and the colors on that would just pop!! I'd border it with white and then a small thin, thin red binding!

  9. I'm starting to take a quilting class this week. This would be perfect practice for me on my road to becoming a quilting expert. My kids would use this for all sorts of make-believe tents and campouts once it was finished.

  14. I love it! I think I would give it to my baby, who is almost two. He is obsessed with all blankets and this matches his room perfectly! Awesome giveaway!

  15. Ohh, I love it. I'd probably add a border to make it a bit bigger and then it would have a lovely home in my guest bedroom that is those exact colors! Thanks for the chance to win!

  16. I love it!! I adore all things red, white and blue!! If I had a baby of my own I would finish it with a white border and cute red or blue binding and use it as a take-everywhere-hope-it-turns-into their-favorite-blankie, but since I don't...I would just make it up for my sister's sister-in-law, (that's confusing) she is expecting her third little bundle of joy!

  19. call me crazy, but I just don't see the squares that are turned "wrong".

and I still can't believe you are giving this away. Great color combos....someone is seriously going to score.

  20. Came through flickr. :) It has a lot of baby quilt potential. Esp. great for a baby boy. I think it looks nice as it is, even with the wrongly turned blocks. Those add character. I think I'd just put a border around it, sandwich it, quilt (diagonal lines, red thread one way, ?) and bind with ric-rac in the binding.

  23. It would make a lovely lap quilt. Perhaps with a nice border to accentuate the blocks. Please put me in the draw!

  24. This top is screaming "Picnic" to me -- so I think I would add some wide borders and make it into a picnic blanket for my kids.

  25. I would finish this off and use it for a lap quilt for my porch swing in the summer time. The evenings get cool but we still like to sit outside.

  26. How fun! I love the colors! I would add a few more squares and a border and make it a little lap blanket, it would go perfect with my red couch!

  28. I like the red ric-rack idea! I would make it a bit bigger and use it as a tv blanket.

  29. maybe this isn't especially exciting, but i'd finish it up for a baby blanket. I used to quilt quite a bit in high school, actually, and haven't in about 6 years and I miss it. Terribly. and I would be so grateful to have something REAL for this baby, that I helped finish.

  30. I love all the colors in your hourglass quilt! I want to do one with a mix of colors next. I don't think you should fix the rotated hourglasses, that's part of the charm of it! We like to call it my "signature" for the quilt. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree. don't fix the rotated hourglasses.

  32. I love the colors! I have always wanted to make one like that. I would love to use the quilt in my daughter's crib!

    Keep creating,

  33. It's very pretty. If I win I would add a couple borders and donate it to Eve (org. for battered women and children). Thanks

  34. It's so lovely! It would be perfect for my little girl, who complains of being cold and wanting a blanket on her knees all the time.

And I agree about the turned squares. It's lovely as it is!

  35. Just came across your blog today. Its great and is inspiring to get working again! This quilt top would sure help.

  36. Please leave the blocks as is - such charm in your quilt, it is perfect.

I would quilt it simply with a flannel back for my grandkids (all 6!) to snuggle under on the couch. Of course I know they would fight over it.

    Thanks for the chance.

  38. Hi, Just found you through Dana at Old Red Barn. I would use it as a lap quilt and leave it on the couch. Love the red white and blue theme. We recently returned to the States after 15 overseas missionary work, and I'm loving being home in America again! I can't seem to get enough of "all things American" these days! (Loved being overseas, though...it's was just time to come home!)

  39. I love your blog!! I also love this quilt top and would just love to finish it up to make it a naptime quilt for my 4 year old daughter...she loves all things quilty :o) Thank you for all your inspirational projects.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would love to take this top and practice quilting and binding with it. I'm a new quilter and for some reason thought I would try a king size quilt for my first project. Now I'm too scared to quilt and bind it! Thanks for a chance to win!

  41. I would probably just add a border or two and make a nice couch quilt. I can't believe you are giving this away!

  42. I love this quilt. I have said I would make my son (who is now 3) a quilt for him to sleep with. Somehow time has gotten away from me, and I have not made him a quilt yet. The colors in this quilt would go lovely with his new "big boy" room, and I would finish it to put on his new big boy bed. Very pretty quilt!!!

  43. I would probably add a blue border and then hang it on one of my large kitchen walls. Our ceilings are vaulted, and about 17 feet high at the peak, so I have lots of high, bare walls. I have not really done much quilting, but would like to give it a try. It is a very beautiful quilt top.

  44. Wow, I can't believe you'd give away a quilt top! I would love to win it! Every year we have a family reunion and I always bring a quilt for the raffle with the proceeds going towards next year's reunion. If I won this quilt top, I'd make it into a quilt and donate it to our family reunion. Thanks for the chance.
