Dress Opinion needed

O.K. here is the deal--I am sick of most of the dresses in my closet. I want to make some new stuff but I need someone else's opinion besides my children and my hubby.

I found this awesome knit fabric at Wal-Mart--$1/yd. and you could wad it up on the floor, leave it there for a couple days and then put it on without a wrinkle anywhere. Gotta love that! I'm just not sure what to do with it. I'm afraid that it might be too much for an entire dress for a woman who isn't 25 anymore.
Here is the pattern I was thinking of using with the fabric--along with a solid black piece.
McCall's 4510
I like the Black and white version view C--possibly with the sleeves from the purple dress view E.

So tell me what you think. My other option would be to just make a somewhat flared skirt, elastic waist, and pair it with a black top.

  1. I like the black and white view, and I like the sleeves and length of it, too, but not with the contrasting black fabric. That fabric is AWESOME without the contrast. The purple view sleeves and length will make it seem like an "older" dress. The fabric needs a youthful look. And I think you could pull it off in all your non-25ness! The skirt idea is good, too.
Just my opinion--take it for what's its worth! FREE!

  2. And if you decide not to like the fabric, I'd be happy to take it off your hands! :) So CUTE!

  3. Go for the dress! You're not 25?!?

  4. I'm a skirt person and prefer solids close to my face, so I'd go with the skirt combo or maybe C with black only on the top and the green for the middle and bottom section... Gotta love the $1/yard bins!!! :)

  6. yeah, I don't like the sleeves in view E.

  7. I say, version C is lovely and adding sleeves from E is bold. To pull it off, you might need some height. How tall are you? Otherwise, I think E with C would make an already shortish person appear even shorter. To play it safe, go for the flared skirt. I love skirts! So what will it be bold or safe?

  8. Even if I use it I can send you some too. I almost bought the whole stinking bolt of it in the first place.

So what I am hearing is just go for it--short length of skirt and short sleeves too. Don't thrown in any black contrast.

  9. O.K. here is another thought. Don't you think that it defeats the purpose of this pattern if I don't use a contrasting piece?

I was thinking to use the same black as that view and then the funky piece in place of the white.

  10. yes, the whole point is the contrast except even the pattern has a version of all the same fabric (view D). I like the black and white version myself. Maybe skirt idea with the fabric you have.

  11. I'm definitely tall enough-- 6'2" --so I'll have to think about it. Thanks for all your input so for. I'm going to go get the fabric today and still think about it.

If anyone else wants to put in their 10 cents worth then go right ahead.
